NEW EDITIONS
Three reprints of Gyrðir's works.
This spring, three new reissues of Gyrðir's works were released by Dimma Publishing, namely the short prose works Pensilskrift and Þöglu myndirnar, and also Poetry Collection IV which includes the books Upplitað myrkur (2005), Nokkur almenn orð um kulnun sólar (2009), and Hér vex enginn sítrónuviður (2012).



A new life experience story by Gyrðir has been released.
A unique and completely different book by Gyrðir Elíasson has been released. In it he shares with readers a difficult life experience and holds nothing back. A powerful and sincere account that has received excellent reviews and reception. Foreign editions of Gyrðir's works now number 65 in total.

The book 'A Fishing Rod for My Grandfather' translated by Gyrðir Elíasson is out.
The short story collection 'A Fishing Rod for My Grandfather' by Gao Xingjian, translated by Gyrðir Elíasson, was published in the spring. The stories are full of precise details and subtle references, making them a pleasure to read. In these six stories, lyrical images are presented at the intersections of memory and reality, where the unsaid is captured by the poet's artistry and the painter's insight.

Gyrðir received the Zinklar Award for his short stories.
Gyrðir Elíasson received the Zinklar Award in 2026, an honorary award of 100,000 Danish kroner, which is given to a Danish or foreign short story writer. The Zinklar Award was established by the Danish author Finn Zinklar (1923–2010), and on the occasion of the award, Gyrðir's first short story collection, BRÉFBÁTARIGNINGIN, was reissued in Danish (translated by Erik Skyum-Nielsen) by the publishing house Jensen & Dalgaard, having first been published in Denmark in 1991.

ABOUT THE WRITER

Gyrðir Elíasson (born April 4, 1961)
is an Icelandic writer, poet, translator and painter. Gyrðir has received numerous awards and nominations both at home and abroad, including the Nordic Council's literary award in 2011 for his book, Milli trjánna and the Icelandic literature award in 2000 for The Gula húsið . He is originally from the east coast, but grew up in Sauðárkrókur and now lives in Reykjavík. Gyrðir published his first book of poetry, Svarthvít axlabönd , in 1983 and his first novel, Gangandi íkorni , was published in 1987. Gyrðir is considered a good stylist and his books are very mystical and full of subtle humor. He has written 43 books and 26 translations. His books have been translated into many languages throughout Europe. In recent years, Gyrðir has turned more and more to the art of painting and is considered very versatile in that field.
